Cicada on a hot day

Postby Paul Tong » 14 Jul 2010, 00:04

Hi all,

I saw many cicadas perched on branches at a park by the hospital I work. At lunch or breaks I will go there and relax to their buzzing sounds they make. I saw a praying mantis eating a cicada :worried: wow I just had to bring my camera the next day to capture them. Too Bad no mantis anywhere in sight, thats good for the cicadas though except birds :o

Cicada: 200mm, 1/200,f/7.1,iso400,ET tubes,flash. cropped 15% from branches.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Pretty good composition and nice BG. Nit is harsh light on the head may be due to noon sunlight?

Cheers,
SC

Hi SC,

Thanks for the comments. The sun was in front of the tree, I was behind the tree trying to get that "aura feel" from the rays hitting the cicada in front. The cicada head was just too shiny.

Thanks ,

Paul

Hi Paul

Nice and sharp. Other than the highlight on the head, you might want to close up the aperture more as the eye is out of the depth of field.

Nice work and keep it up.

Cheers

Paul,
Despite the minor nits mentioned by the senior, this is a good shot :kudos thumbsup:
Really hope to see more from you
