NPSS Ironman Challenge 2010

We received a number of feedback about the timing of the Ironman Challenge, that it was a challenge due to their own personal schedule, with the school holidays and/or work commitment.

NPSS would like to thank everyone for the feedback, and with that in consideration we have decided to postpone the challenge to a later date (last quarter of the year). It will still be held in Ubin with NParks and Canon coming in as co-organizers and prize sponsors .

So good news for everyone , you will all have more time to brush up your photographic skills in the various categories

So watch this space soon, as we will provide new details of the event!

We are 10 years old!!

To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we are organizing our first NPSS Ironman Challenge. This competition is designed to challenge our members' skills in 4 different types of nature photography. Here are the details:

Date : TBA
Competition Venue : Pulau Ubin. A Chalet has been booked for participants, details will be published soon.
Meeting place : Changi Point Ferry Terminal
Time : 7pm
Maximum number of participant : 30
Prizes : TBA

Here are the rules of competition:

1) This competition is open to all paid NPSS members.
2) There is no entry fee, participants to pay for ferry ride to Pulau Ubin on June 11 and return trip on June 12
3) You must be the photographer and owner of the copyright for any image entered.
4) Each member can submit only 1 image for each category i.e. a maximum of 5 images for this competition. Participants can choose not to submit all 5:

a) Avian
b) Flora & Macro
c) Landscape
d) Wildlife
e) Intertidal
5) Each image will be graded individually by a panel of judges. The photographer with the highest score win the competition.
6) In the event of a tie, the tie breaker will be the time of submission.
7) All submissions must be taken within the period allocated for the Challenge (i.e. from 7pm June 11 to 12pm June 12) and at Pulau Ubin
8) Submission will be through NPSS Gallery, link will be provided later. Dateline of submission is by midnight 12 June 2010
9) Images must not contain any prominent Hand of Man.
10) Photographers must follow NPSS Code of Ethics, failing to do so will be automatic disqualification
11) Subject ID and EXIF data are required.
12) Please keep digital manipulation such as cloning and compositing to a minimum; your photograph should faithfully represent the scene as you saw it. HDR images are allowed but excessive use is not recommended. Cropping if any is advised to be minimal.
13) Submitted images should not exceed 800 pixels along the long edge and not exceeding 175KB.
14) Images must not include a watermark or border.
15) You will retain copyright of your entries at all times and will always be credited alongside your picture.
16) Under no-circumstance will we use submitted images for commercial gain unless it has been agreed on a case by case basis with the photographer.
17) The original RAW file will be requested for the winning entries
18) Competition Committee reserves the right to amend the rules without further notice.
