Here comes the long-awaited trip to Mersing and I have researched the tides and these 3 days will give us some solid sunrises and sunsets (if the weather cooperates!).
As always, we will be staying at the chalet and I will place the booking once we have a confirmed attendance. Drivers are always appreciated and we will meet at Mersing town where we will stock up on water and snacks from a local supermarket. We will have lunch at the KFC or coffeeshop there as well.
Sandflies will be an issue to some and I have found that suntan OIL works really well since they get stuck on it and just die off. You will look like you have just been doused with pepper but hey, no bites at all and that's what matters.
Clothing-wise, dri-fit tees are the best as they can be washed and dry up in a few hours. Bermudas are fine. Footwear should be sandals or shoes though I do wear flip flops since I detest soaked boots. Whatever it is, a spare pair of footwear will be needed.
Eqpt wise: Other than your cameras and lenses (wide to about 200mm will suffice), filters, TORCHLIGHTS and plastic bags/ziplock bags to wrap your eqpt while they are in the bag will be needed. We MAY wade through knee deep water and water can enter normal camera bags easily so having the eqpt in ziplock bags will be good. I have purchased Lowepro's Dryzone backpack and it's been great and gives me a peace of mind.
Breakdown of costs:
Chalet: RM110/night (twinsharing)
Meals: RM11/meal (Sat: dinner, Sun; Lunch and dinner). We should try getting bread, etc from the local supermarket for breakfast since we will be out shooting really early.
Vehicles: To be shared among the passengers and drivers.
P.S: Fret not if there are insufficient vehicles, we can take a coach up (from Kallang Bahru) and the one-way ticket will be about SGD30. It will bring us direct to Mersing town where we can meet up with the rest. The return ticket will be RM30 (
). From Mersing town, its just a cab to our location so no worries about that. I will take the coach if needed so no worries about the procedures through customs, etc. For those interested, please put down your name, room and whether you are driving.
Cheers
Han
