Orange-bellied leafbird

Postby peacefuldove » 29 Jul 2010, 22:49

I often remembered leafbird to be green and so was taken away by the colors of this montane leafbird....This is a female. The male has a black face, throat and upper breast, and deep beautiful blue on wings and tail. Orange underparts. Its juv is all green, lacking the belly patch.

Mostly record shots of the male & Juv, so just sharing one shot of the female that I liked the most, although wished for less of the leaves blocking the body of the bird.... :( ..... Shot in Fraser's Hill.

Post processing - dialed up a +0.3ev exposure compensation to counter the camera setting of -0.7ev to brighten up the image overall...Noise reduction on the bg ~ almost give up doing masking selection as the color of the bg and the bird is so similar.....
cheers!

hi pp, this is not a record shot, i would rate this a keeper shot...
no problem with the leaves covering part of the body as pasts of its body can still be seen...
in fact, feel that the red flower and the dangling fruit complements with the bird...
very nice !! :kudos thumbsup:
eric :)
Cheers

The leaves was a bit of a nuisance but the flower is a nice touch, compliment the leafbird beautifully. :kow tow:

Hi PP,

Thanks for sharing.
The compos is nice. :kudos thumbsup: :kudos thumbsup: I won't bother too much whether the leaves block her body.

HB - yes, 2:3 is my usual default crop, but for this case, it rendered too much empty space at the bottom and too tight on both sides (the leaves & the bird)...so, I had to choose a free-sized crop for this....
