I wasn’t aware of this service notice released just earlier this year in Feb 2009, so I thought I should post it here as well, though I know most of you don’t use this camera ;-). This service notice fixes the potential problem of the mirror falling off.

Actually, I just sent my 5D for a cleanup, and they informed me about this. The fix is free, but they told me to check on the alignment after they fix it. Should get my cam back next week, hopefully everything goes well.

Note that this is meant for the first EOS 5D and not the mkII.

Thanks PT for the note. It would be a blow to be shooting and suddenly the viewfinder blacks out!

It was apparently a known problem for some time. Luckily that didn’t happen to me

Thankfully Canon is still willing to fix it after the product is already EOL.

Only worry is how to check the mirror alignment after I get the camera back :?

    Cheers,
    PTLee
