The rumor is true!! Canon just launched 7D a few minutes ago.  Seems to have wildlife and sport photographers in mind. :woohoo: Hopefully the ISO performance will be as claimed. Can’t wait to get my hands on one!!

I thought you are jumping ship?
You should look toward the D400, D800 and D4. :P

Come la, our IS sure work one! don’t need to turn off.

I think ISO looks good only at 800, 1600 is questionable at Rob Galbraith site. I am still wondering why this is not a 60D? :?

    Hi SC
Now my heart strings are tugged. Was determined to wait for the 1DM4 but then this came along…
I am a little disappointed with the image at 1600 ISO though :(

Despite not fulfilling all of my wishes, I’m pretty impressed so far with the camera specs and sample shots from what I read & see. Video looks promising, with full HD, H.264 encoding, I reckon we’ll be seeing more video posts soon ;) .

At ISO 1600, I’d say is pretty good for a 1.6x crop at 18Mpix. Like Rob Galbraith mentioned, I would have preferred a 12MP with (hopefully) better noise performance. Still, I think it ‘may’ be usable.

Waiting for October for it’s arrival.

1DmkIV would be about twice as pricey, and will need to think twice before committing.

I’m also very excited with 7D. The spec looks good… esp. Canon make sure that the flash sync is at 1/250!

Now need to see the noise performance in field.

Its weird that Canon chose to name this as 7D. But the specs look superb and 8fps! Wow! The video should be superb since it offers 50 frames per second! That means slow-motion is very much a possiblity though at the lower resolution of 720. But then again, HD footage from BBC’s Planet Earth was mostly 720p.

Seems like an excellent and worthwhile purchase if the noise levels are well controlled and detail not sacrificed.

    Cheers

For the curious, here’s a movie of a bee eater shot at 720/60p and slowed to 24fps, posted by liquidstone in dpreview

    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=33030736

There’s also the question of the buffer depth when shooting in machine gun (8 fps) mode :? May be of concern to some action photographers.

Beware though, 7D could become a victim of too much hype, esp since the camera isn’t even in the shops yet. ;)

Canon Singapore just posted the retail price of this camera @ S$2699. Called my favorite local camera shop and placed my name. Will know the exact shipment date by next Tuesday. I was hoping to get the camera before my trip next Friday, but seems unlikely. :(

Wow. The 7D must be one of the most eagerly awaited Canon DSLR in recent times :)

SC, good luck, it’s gonna be close, reports states that the shipment from the distribution centres starts early next week. 8-)
