I don’t expect Nikon to sell them at USD5500 but wanting to sell at USD8000…?? Some marketing guy at Nikon got to be out of their mind. USD 6500 sound more reasonable…

    Con,
I will not sell off my D3. :?:
    Still enjoying it.

    Vincent,
A lot of things need to be consider if one is planning for an upgrade.
The files size is too big and a new powerful set up of PC is a must.
That’a a lot of additional cost.

Yes, agreed with you. And looking at D3x’s spec, it is much slower than their competitor. 1ds3 shoots at 5fps, 14 bit compressed,14bit processed and d3x at 1.8fps when using 14bit compressed, 16 bit processed?! I’m not sure what the extra 2 bit will improved on the image and I’m not sure whether the extra 13.9% pixel justify giving away the speed and raw size files, if there is any different in image quality at all. 1ds raw file is 22~26MB, Nikon I believe to be in excess of 50MB. You will need a 64bit machine with at least 8Gb of ram….

Heard from the shop that D3x is priced around $12,000.00, WOW
I think not many people will be in a hurry to upgrade to this baby

I think D3x is likely to be quite a nice camera. For my application, birds, where I often need the high iso performance and sometimes need high frame rate, the D3 is the better all around choice. But imagine if you can get a bird full frame with 24 megapixels in good light,…… maybe if I win the lottery.
